Time Out for Women and Girls

Be warned. There may be typos here. It's 11:45 p.m. and I'm tired and ready for bed, however, I'm excited to share some of the Wilcox news. So, please be forgiving if you have trouble with my grammer and spelling.

WOW! I just had an uplifting and spiritual day and I feel like a better women, wife, and mother. I had the privilege of attending the "Time Our for Women and Girls" conference today with Dave's two sisters and their daughters. It was GREAT and I wanted to share a few quotes that made me ponder my life (and of course some pics).

Hilary Weeks in middle, Jenny Jordan Frogley on left- musicians

Quote from Hilary: "Worry about how others feel when they are with you. Not how you feel when you are with others."

Abe Mills- Singing member of "Jerico Road"

Thoughts from Abe: "Dare Not to Compare"- his whole talk was about how we should not compare ourselves to others and we need to appreciate ourselves as Heavenly Father would appreciate us. We need to realize that we have so much to offer our families, communities, and this world. We just need to let go of the, "not measuring up to others" and instead, make our our measurements compared to where we've already been. I love this because it made me think about my own progress compared to me, not anyone else.

Jane Clayson Johnson- formerly on CBS- The Early Show, CBS- The Evening News, 48 Hours, ABC- World News Tonight with Peter Jennings & Good Morning America.

Quotes from Jane: "Our prophets have told us that standards are not negotiable." This will come in handy when I have teens!
Also from Jane: "The choices you make now will influence the choices you can make later." Very fitting for me right now since Dave and I are in the midst of making some important choices right now.

Not pictured but well worth listening to was Laurel Christensen. She asks, "Who the heck are you?" Then answers that question with this one, "Who does God think I am?" She said to say this statement and fill in the blank with words that you would want associated with yourself. "I am Gods ________________________ daughter!" Ex. "I am Gods kind daughter, loving daughter, confident daughter, honest daughter, funny daughter, etc." Then learn to believe it and live it!!

Lastly, but certainly not least, John Hilton III (a religous educator & EFY speaker). His talk was titled, "Three Things I want my Little Sister to Know About Guys." One of the main points of his talk was that we as young women and not so young women should have high expectation and standards for ourselves as well as the boys & men in our lives. We should expect to be treated kindly, spoken to respectfully, and assumed to keep the standards of the gospel. He told a story about a "cool" 17-year old boy going to a church dance. Just before the dance a neighbor called and asked him to take their daughter (she was 14 or 15). He agreed. Once parked at the dance, he jumped out and quickly made his way to the entrance, and then suddenly realized the girl wasn't with him. He trucked back to the car where she was still sitting. He opened her car door to ask if something was wrong and she quickly said something like, "Thank you for opening my door. That is so nice!" They then walked together into the dance. I like this story because it's a great example of what I want my boys to learn to do when they are with girls. Any of you have hubby's that open your door?

Honey Bee Field Trip

Wanted to share a fun field trip we went on with our homeschool co-op. Recently we had a science lesson on honeybees and then took a field trip to see real honeybees at work. I now know alot about these bees and they are absolutely fascinating insects! Ask me about them only when you want to talk for a while! Just kidding!

Here we are with Mariko, the bee keeper, and our friends. The two oldest boys were welcome tag-a-longs.

Mariko, Cameron, and Janine (the bravest mom) are observing the bees and the honeycomb while the rest of us watch safely through the kitchen window. Look close and you can see that the honeycomb is covered in bees.

Here is the honeycomb. Notice all the hexagons in the middle that are filled with white. Those are bee larvae (baby bees). You'll notice in the upper left the wax that is covering fresh honey ready to harvest.

Here, MacKenzie enjoys all natural honey scooped out of the honeycomb. I've been told that fresh honey is SO MUCH BETTER than store bought and that once I tried it fresh I'd have a hard time going back to store bought. I agree. The fresh honey tasted smooth, creamy and buttery. It was as if it melted in my mouth! It was SO MUCH BETTER!!! MMMMM!

Jared's Big News

Jared pulled out his first loose tooth last Sunday. It was so loose on Saturday I thought it would fall out on the soccer field during his game. He was so proud and surprised that it didn't hurt once it came out.

After Jared pulled out his tooth he was kind of strutting around the house and announced it was time to take the training wheels off his bike. Dave and I were both in agreement that he wasn't ready for that and tried to talk him out of it, but he insisted it was time. So, we thought, ok, we'll let him try and to our surprise he got on his two-wheeler and started to ride. He really didn't even fall. So, there you go, Jared is one big kid now!! (I tried to upload a video, however, I have now run out of time. If this video shows up after I hit the publish button, I'll be thrilled. If not, just imagine Jared learning to pedal, steer, and attempt to ride over the Daddy made bike jump in our backyard.) Ok, wait. So the video doesn't show up here but click on that funny icon and it will open the link. Let me know if you can't view the video.
